Course Description

Meeting time and budget goals on a project is achieved through detailed planning, responding to day-to-day changes, and taking actions which are focused on maintaining the project schedule and budget. The tools of Time and Cost management, such as Change Management, the Work Breakdown Structure, Network Diagrams, and Budget development, are presented in a workshop format, combining lecture and hands-on exercises.

Learning Outcomes

Through mini lectures and hands-on teamwork, the course seeks to create a typical project life cycle, with practical instruction on how to—

  • Develop the Time and Cost Management Plan for a project

  • Identify and apply the tools associated with Time and Cost Management (schedules and budgets), including Earned Value

  • Review and apply various estimating approaches

  • Develop project schedules (including float, critical path, and risks), budgets, and Change Control procedures

  • Develop a Work Breakdown Structure for a project

  • Develop Gantt, Milestone, and Precedence diagrams for a project

  • Identify Review and apply resource allocation strategies

  • Create a “lessons learned” review from a Time and Cost perspective
