Intended Audience

This course is designed for—

  • Experienced Project and Program Managers who want to review the current state of communication technologies

  • Project Managers and Project/Team Leaders who have recently entered the profession or recently assumed growing project responsibilities

  • Communication Managers and Analysts who plan and manage communication activities for projects

Course Description

Communication technologies are changing the way we work and interact in the demanding environments of most projects today, especially when project members may be scattered across the globe. Just keeping up with the technology can be demanding when so many tools are available for collaboration, brainstorming, consensus building, document sharing, posting updates, and so forth. This course untangles the mystery behind communication technologies—teleconferencing, Intranets, web conferencing, and groupware—and provides proven methods for selecting the right technologies for the needs of the project and integrating them into a coherent project communication system.

Learning Outcomes

Through mini lectures and hands-on teamwork, the course seeks to create a typical project life cycle, with practical instruction on how to—

  • Identify new communication technologies, their costs, and advantages

  • Select the right communication technology for the right task and situation within the context of the Communication Plan

  • Develop a communication system that fits the culture and available technology of the organization
