Intended Audience

Anyone who is assigned to participate on a project, either full-time or part-time, will find this course particularly valuable. Project team members—developers, service delivery staff, finance and procurement analysts, Quality and test analysts, trainers, and others—can come from a variety of functional areas and bring unique skill sets to the project environment.

Course Description

This course focuses on the roles and responsibilities of project team members, the framework on which project management is based, and the project management process. The triple constraints of Time, Cost, and Quality are introduced, along with the concepts involved in managing them. Techniques for the development of the Scope and the Work Breakdown Structures are introduced through a hands-on exercise. The concepts surrounding Risk, Team Building, Communication, and Contract Management are introduced in this fast-paced introductory course.

Learning Outcomes

Project team members will gain an understanding of how projects are managed and what their responsibilities are to the project. They will have the opportunity to learn or review new techniques which can be applied to current or future projects, with practical instruction on how to—

  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of the project team, the project manager, and the project sponsor

  • Identify the eight components of the project management process as defined by the Project Management Institute

  • Work within the project life cycle
