Intended Audience

This course is designed for experienced Project and Program Managers and for Business Analysts/Managers who want to learn about enterprise strategy and translate that strategy into cohesive project initiatives.

Course Description

This course provides a thorough review of enterprise strategy tools and techniques as well as an understanding of how strategy drives corporate initiatives, both IT and non-IT. It brings together an understanding of both cost leaderships and product differentiation and how those factors determine both the priority of project initiatives as well as their flexibility.

Learning Outcomes

Through mini lectures and hands-on teamwork, the course reviews fundamentals of strategic planning and competitive advantage, with practical instruction on how to—

  • Use the five forces model to identify enterprise needs and select projects

  • Use the value chain to drive competitive advantage and project scope

  • Use SWOT analysis to identify project priorities (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)

  • Identify strategic initiatives that take precedence over other more traditional cost-benefit or ROI decisions
